Crown Reduction
We can carefully reduce the size of a tree’s canopy to make it lighter, safer, and better shaped, all while preserving its natural form. We follow industry standards for pruning (i.e. BS3998), so we’ll always talk you through what’s possible, explain any limits, and help you to choose the best option for your tree and your space.
Crown Thinning / Spiral Thinning
Crown thinning is a method of increasing airflow and light penetration through the canopy of a tree, without compromising its original shape and character. Where appropriate, we can help to mitigate your tree's chances of future structural failure by selectively pruning off the right branches.
For coniferous trees (pictured), spiral thinning can be an effective way of reducing the wind loading on a tree without the potentially dangerous and unsightly consequences of 'topping'. When many conifer species lose their tops, they respond by sending out multiple competing leaders which spoil the tree's form and have weaker connections. Spiral thinning avoids these pitfalls, allowing your tree to retain its proper shape.
Deadwood Removal
Dead wood in trees plays an important role in supporting wildlife and biodiversity, especially in more natural settings. However, in areas with foot traffic, it can pose a safety risk. We can assess your tree and carefully remove any hazardous deadwood, helping to keep people safe while retaining what's beneficial for nature where appropriate.
Tree Removal
As people entrusted to care for creation, we take our responsibility for trees seriously. We value the impact of trees on both the natural and built environment, and we aim to steward them wisely. Even so, there are times when removal is necessary - for example, if a tree is dead, dying or unsafe; if it's unsuited to its surroundings due to changing land use; or if it's simply outgrown its space beyond the scope of any reasonable pruning works. We assess each situation carefully and will always talk you through the options before carrying out any tree removal.
